Preview: Longines EEF Series Mannheim

This years edition of the Longines EEF Series (LES) starts in Germany. It will be the CSIO3* in Mannheim (May 6-10) that will host the first leg of the competition series launched by the European Equestrian Federation (EEF) and that this year presents a complete calendar, providing young talents and combinations from emerging nations a chance to gain experience and technically improve at top-level events.
Launched in 2020, but then postponed due to the pandemic, last year the Longines EEF Series had a reduced calendar because of health restrictions. The Series returns with a complete offering of 8 regional qualifiers, 2 semi-finals, and the Final this year.
The first regional qualifier will start at 13.00 on May 8th at the MVV- Reitstadion in Mannheim. The teams competing for points are Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Switzerland who will combine their results from this weekend with their second qualifier in Bratislava (19-22 May) to put the top 5 central-regional teams into the semi-finals.
The chef de piste appointed for the CSIO3* and the Nations Cup is Germany’s Christa Jung. The class will be available to watch live on the EEF website thanks to a partnership with Clip My Horse. The watch live link is available here.

The Mannheim CSIO3*
Thanks to the Longines EEF Series the show in Mannheim will be Germany’s second CSIO alongside Aachen’s. Mannheim has already however hosted events of this level, as in 2015, when the MVV-Reitstadion produced an important edition with the show jumping Nations Cup, Germany’s 100th, instead of Aachen which that year hosted the European Championships.
The Mannheim CSIO3* is also one of the key events hosted at the Maimarkt-Turnier and in 2022 presents its 58th edition, with ten days of equestrian sport (April 29th – May 10th) that also includes a CSIV-B (a show for Veterans), a 4* international dressage event (CDI4*) as well as a para-dressage competition (CPEDI3*).
European Equestrian Federation (EEF)
Founded in 2009, the European Equestrian Federation (EEF) is the representative body for the European based National equestrian Federations. Working closely with the Federation Internationale Equestre (FEI) and the National Federations, the EEF works to maximize the potential and development of equestrianism throughout the continent. The EEF is committed to promoting the sport equestrianism and its good practices, developing the sport across Europe, and providing leadership for a collective European voice in the sport. In 2015 a partnership was formed between the EEF and Longines, which is the title sponsor, timekeeper and official watch for the Longines EEF Series. The EEF currently includes and represents 38 European National Federations.
THE LONGINES EEF SERIES - LES
Longines EEF Series is a show jumping Nations Cup series created by the European Equestrian Federation that has replaced the FEI Nations Cup Europe Division 2. Launched in 2020, but then postponed to 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it was held with a reduced calendar last year once again due to restrictions in place for the containment of the pandemic. The series aims to support European nations in developing their horses and riders in high-level competition. The series promotes the participation of younger developing talents by requiring at least one member of the team to be under 25 years of age.
The Longines EEF Series is subdivided into four European regional areas – north- south – centre and west – including the 42 National Federations that are part of the FEI’s EEF Group.
Region South (ALB, BIH, BUL, CYP, GRE, ITA, MKD, MLT, ROU, SMR, SRB, TUR, UKR)
Region Central (AUT, CRO, CZE, GER, HUN, LIE, SLO, SUI, SVK)
Region North (DEN, EST, FIN, ISL, ISR, LAT, LTU, NOR, POL, SWE)
Region West (AND, BEL, ESP, FRA, GBR, IRL, LUX, MON, NED, POR)
The Longines EEF Series involves two qualifiers at CSIO3* for each region, allowing the five best teams to qualify for the two semi-finals held this year in Deauville and Budapest. As in 2021, the final will be held in September at the Warsaw CSIO4* and the winner will be promoted to the 2023 Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup Division 1. The 2021 Series was won by Italy.
