Equine hoofprint carbon footprint study completed by Wageningen University & Research and EEF
25. Sep 2023 / Category: News
Research to calculate the equine emission “hoofprint” has been completed by Wageningen University & Research (WUR) in partnership with the EEF.
The team of researchers from WUR have worked with stables in Sweden and the Netherlands to track the activities of horses, from birth to maturity, across a range of competition disciplines, to understand the amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions the horse is accountable for. This has led them to create Hoofprint, an equine-specific emission calculator.
The video summarises the study and the key findings.
To learn more about the study, the Hoofprint calculator and WUR, please register for our next Making Strides in Sustainability webinar, on Tuesday 10 October. Theun Vellinga, Iris Huisman and Hassan Pishgar Komleh from the research team at WUR will lead a presentation on the topic.
We will also be joined by Professor Nat Waran, a lead researcher and chair of the Equine Ethics and Wellbeing Commission to explore how we can digest the science and start thinking about human behaviour changes in relation to social licence, and the role the climate crisis plays in obtaining a social licence.
The webinar is accessible to all with pre-registration on this link: https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_0-BcYPOQSwKttFztJncGIA
